What is Cloud Computing??
The practice of using a
network of remote servers that are hosted on the Internet to store, manage, and
process data, rather than a local server or a personal computer.
Cloud computing services cover a vast range of option now,
from basic of the storage, networking and processing power through natural
language processing and artificial intelligence as well as standard office
applications.
Cloud Storage Services:
Most popular cloud storage services work by syncing your date
to their servers and across online devices (tablets, laptops, smart phones)
etc. Cloud storage services are made available by large player in the field of
cloud computing. Some of them are:
·
Microsoft’s
One drive
·
Drop
box
·
Google
drive
·
Apple’s
Drive
However some of the less popular storage services are Box
& Aar net’s Cloud Store. Most cloud storage services allow uses limited free
storage or extra storage space on a subscription basis.
Depending on the service you get file storage, synchronisation with file
systems on local devices, ability to share with specific users, access to files
via access links, ability to edit files using the storage service’s online
applications, access from PC’s, Mac’s, tablets, phones etc.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Cloud Services
Cloud
Storage is a service where data is remotely maintained managed
and backed up. This service allows users to files online so that they can
access to them from any location via Internet. Nevertheless, these sorts of
services can result positive and negative impact to the users which are going
to be discussed below;
§ Positive features of Cloud Storage
i. It allows the user to drag and drop
files between cloud storage and their local storage.
ii.
It stores files which can be access
from anywhere via Internet.
iii.
It can be used as backup plan by
businesses by providing second copy of important files.
iv.
It can reduce annual operating costs
by using cloud storage by 3% GB to store data internally.
§ Negative aspects of Cloud Storage
i.
It
permanently moves your document from its original folder to cloud storage
location.
ii.
You
cannot access to your data if there is no Internet connection.
iii.
You
cannot manipulate to your files locally through multiple devices unless you
download the service in all devices.
Mobile Computing
Mobile Computing is a technology that allows transmission
of data, voice and video via a computer
or any other wireless enabled device without having to be connected to a
fixed physical link. The mobile phone network is underpinned by many technologies.
The main
concept involves;
- ·
Mobile communication
- ·
Mobile hardware
- ·
Mobile software
Since mobile phones were first
introduced in 1980’s, there has been continuous change in technology. The first
mobile networks were entirely analogy and supported only voice. 2G networks
were based on GSM (Global System for mobile communications) or CDMA (code
division multiple access) technologies. It included the ability to handle data
(SMS, MMS etc.). Likewise, 3G systems introduced high data speeds and were
primarily based on CDMA technologies (including CDMA2000, WCDMA, TD-SCDMA).Similarly,4G system have much higher data rates. The main 4G technology is LTE
(Long Term Evolution) which is based on Internet Protocol (IP) standards. It
can also work on a wide range of frequencies which will allow smooth
transitions for many mobile carriers. Not only that, 5G is under development and will provide high speed access from 2020.
There progression in
mobile systems is described as differing generations. The first generation 1G
then 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G into the future.
